ZODIAK-8B
is a super wide-angle (fisheye) coated lens with springblend aperture designed for Soviet Kiev-6S and Kiev-60 SLR cameras.
I think, it is just a copy of Zeiss Flectogon lens for Pentacon-Six camera.
In the main, most all Soviet lenses are exceptionally good and this one is no exception!
This 30mm
ZODIAK-8B
lens is a full-frame fish-eye lens for Medium Format.
It has a diagonal angle of view of 180 degrees and is the widest lens available for full-frame 2¼ square (6×6) cameras. This lens bears a remarkable resemblance to the Carl Zeiss Oberkochen (former West German) Opton 28mm lens designed for the Hasselblad – but then, it would be difficult for it to look much different, given the task it has to perform. The West German Zeiss lens retails for a price about US ,000. The latest, multi-coated version of the Arsenal 30mm lens retails for a price above US 0. It is easy to see that even if you already possess a Hasselblad and a range of Carl Zeiss Oberkochen Opton lenses for it, you are going to need very deep pockets or an extremely lucrative commission to justify spending ,000 for a lens that inevitably will rarely be used. It would seem to make a lot more sense to buy the Arsenal lens and a suitable body to mount it on – always assuming that the quality of the images that it delivers is comparable to that obtained with the Zeiss lens. This Arsenal lens was marketed for many years with the name “
ZODIAK-8B
. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Arsenal re-branded its lenses
ARSAT
, and this lens is no exception.

The lens was accurately used before.
The glass is clean, with no any scratches or fungus

Aperture blades open and close smoothly (and jumps properly), focusing is smooth too.
Cosmetically the lens looks in
fine

Soviet lens manufacturers wrote even about NEW lenses:
"The components of modern high quality lenses are produced from special grades of glass. The smelting process involved causes inevitable formation of gasses which get trapped in the glass to form bubbles. They are always noticed with complex photographic lenses. The bubbles do not affect the lens performance or the quality of the image. Soviet state standards also allows the presence of next minor defects: scratches with the width less than 0.02mm at each surface of each optical element with total length no more than double element's diameter; dots with diameter less than 0.3mm no more than 5 dots; several minor pieces of dust and no more 2 napkin fibers with the length no more 3mm. Therefore, the factory does not accept claims about bubbles and minor defects of clearance found in lenses or exchange such lenses.
