RARE MAKU TRIBE HAND-MADE BLOW DART TREE BARK QUIVER & 50+ DARTS FROM THE AMAZON

Description

This is a very rare hand-made, blow dart, tree bark, quiver with dozens of darts made by the Maku tribe of the upper region of the Amazon along the borders of Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela. The quiver is of a very sturdy tree bark with a hinged flap or cover over the top. It has at least 50 sharply pointed, slender darts, each with a kapok or silk cotton plug at one end, ready for insertion into a blow pipe (there is no blow pipe being offered). Each dart is about 12 inches long and each of the darts has been dipped in a resin to prevent them from drying out.
The darts and quiver are carried over the shoulder using a rigid, woven, string strap (included) by Maku hunters who search for and catch monkeys to feed their village. The tip of the dart is dipped in curare (a neurotoxic poison) just before insertion in the blowpipe. The monkey is paralyzed and in minutes falls to the ground. This quiver is not only a fascinating hand-made curiosity but an actual indigenous rain forest tribal weapon and would enhance an ethnology exhibit found in any world class museum of anthropology.
