My wife and I have been visiting Guatemala and buying art and textiles for almost 25 years. I am offering here for sale some of the things I have collected over this period.Many Tzutujil Maya artists work on the south side of Lake Atitlan in the southern highlands of Guatemala. Most of these artists live in the villages of Santiago Atitlan, San Pedro la Laguna and San Juan la Laguna. This oil painting on stretched canvas is by the artist Diego Isaias Hernandez Mendez of San Juan.
Oil painting on canvas measuring about 9 x 11 inches, stretched. The painting will be mailed in a cardboard box.
This painting is signed lower right and titled lower left "perros enojados" [angry dogs] Diego
specializes in works depicting the accidents and other troubles common in the daily lives of the people, often depicted with humor. He illustrated a small children's book entitled Trouble Dolls: A Guatemalan Legend, published in the U.S. in 2000.
His later paintings have won national prizes in Guatemala.
Condition: This is a used painting, purchased in a gallery in San Pedro la Laguna 10-15 years ago. It is stretched on a simple wood frame.
