    Description

Great old Mapuche pectoral (chest) ornament or trapelakucha from Chile. This piece was worn by women at rituals or festivals. Late 1800-early 1900's. Made from a silver mix approximating German silver as is traditional. Completely handmade. Handmade pin on back. About 7.5" long x 3" wide at the top.
The engraved flower element on the lower plate represents the peaceful Mapuche landscape. The little face in relief on the upper plate is a "pillan" the divinity of the wind. The sounds that the disc tinklers at the bottom of the pin involk beneficial spirits.
